LEAGUE HISTORY
The North Suburban Police Pistol League is a not-for-profit shooting club and was founded in the early 1960's by a group of police officers from several northern Illinois law enforcement agencies. The organization consisted of approximately 50 members that competed in individual and team Bullseye and Combat matches. Over time, the organization began to dwindle and at one point had only 30 members left! On the brink of disbanding in 1999, Deputy Sheriff Peter J. Kolovos from the Cook County Sheriff’s Department stepped in as the league Secretary / Treasurer and helped establish an innovative executive board of enthusiastic, dedicated individuals that were committed to reviving the league. The league was restructured in 2000; league by-laws were established, and the NSPPL was subsequently registered with the National Rifle Association as an NRA affiliated club # B-65723. Aggressive membership recruitment followed, resulting in scores of new league members joining. Today, the NSPPL membership has grown to over 200 members from 21 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, and includes a very select group of civilian associate members, making the NSPPL the largest league of its kind in the region! League matches are sponsored by several law enforcement agencies in Illinois with host agencies providing excellent training facilities for shooters to compete at in individual and team events. Current competition venues include: Traditional Bullseye Match Combat Handgun Match – Open Class Combat Handgun Match – Duty Class Off-Duty Handgun Match Snub Nose Revolver Match 3 – Gun Match – Handgun, Carbine and Shotgun Fun matches and charity events include: Toys for Tots Combat Challenge Charity Match Cops vs. Cowboys Charity Match Bowling Pin Handgun Match
All handgun competition venues are revolver neutral, allowing for equal participation by revolver and pistol shooters alike. The NSPPL shooting season runs from September through April with an average of 55 to 60 matches per season and concludes with an awards banquet and dinner which is held in May every year. Shooters compete in matches to accumulate raffle tickets, which are used to earn prizes at the league banquet at the end of the shooting season. Membership dues are only $ 15.00 per year, which provides our membership the protection of a one-million dollar insurance policy. To qualify for individual awards, each shooter must fire a minimum of ten matches, but you are allowedto fire a maximum of fifteen matches during the season. We then use your best ten match scores for your final average. Match fees are only $ 7.00 per match. To field a team, you must have a minimum of three members from the same department. The team score is based on the best three averages posted during the course of the season, regardless of how many team members your agency may field. In May, we host our Annual Awards Banquet. After minimal operating and target expenses are covered, all remaining money raised from our match fees go towards awards and prizes for our qualified members. The prizes range from fine firearms, to top quality shooting equipment. Last season,we gave away over 40 firearms, along with a long list of other fine shooting-related prizes! OPSC - OAK PARK SPORTSMENS CLUB
If you're looking for other shooting venues in the region to compete in bullseye and PPC, you may want to consider shooting some matches with OPSC - Oak Park Sportsmens Club. OPSC is located in Plainfield, Illinois and has an indoor range and several outdoor ranges that are used for bullseye, PPC, 3-gun and cowboy action matches.
