TRAINING NEWS

February was a very busy month for Team Spartan and the DS Arms Law Enforcement Training Division as we presented vendor displays and live-fire demos at the 30th Annual SHOT SHOW convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. The DSA booth was packed as visitors inquired about DSA products and Team Spartan training courses.

For the 3rd year in a row, convention records were shattered as over 58,700 attendees visited the 1,950 exhibitors displaying thousands of firearms industry products across 715,000 square feet of exhibit space. To give you an idea of just how big this year's convention was, to walk all the aisles added up to over 22 miles!

This year's convention was very exciting for DS Arms as we unveiled the newest models of the Spartan Operator Series ZM-4 5.56 and SA58 .308 rifles and had a chance to take a first hand look at new products released for 2008. Here are some highlight reviews on what's new for 2008!

The new Sig Sauer P250 semi-automatic pistol is the newest handgun series offered by Sigarms for 2008. The P250 is a modular pistol system that allows the shooter to change caliber and grip size by interchanging the internal fire control chassis, which is the registered part. This gives the shooter the versatility to change grip frames from full size, compact and subcompact at will! The action is a one stage, full reset DAO pull with no short reset, as seen in the DAK. Although trigger pull is somewhat long, it is significantly lighter then the DAK. For more information about the P250, visit the Sigarms website.

Kahr Arms new PM45 Micro Polymer .45 ACP semi-automatic pistol was definitely getting some serious attention at the show! This light weight, sub-compact pistol offers major caliber power in a package that has an overall length of 5.67", width of 1.01" and weighs in at 17.5 ounces with the magazine included! It is a stirker fired system that works off a DAO trigger cocking platform. Capacity is 5 + 1 while the extended magazine offers 6 + 1. If you're looking for a super sub-compact carry pistol, the PM45 is worth a look. Visit the Kahr Arms website for more information.
Ruger has broken new ground with their SR9 striker fire series semi-automatic pistols. With the evolution of personal defense weapons paved by Glock and S&W's new M&P pistol, Ruger took a bold step and created what appears to be their best duty grade pistol yet! Upon handling a sample at the show, the first thing I noticed was product quality. Ruger made no shortcuts with this pistol! The trigger pull was a little long, but comparable to most pistols it is competing with. Ergonomics are excellent and it offers several interchangeable grip panels to accommodate the shooters grip. Another product by Ruger that caught my eye was their new .380 LCP - Lightweight Compact Pistol. This ultra-light compact carry pistol weighs only 9.4 ounces and is Ruger's smallest frame pistol with a 3.6" height and .82" width! Again, quality was excellent. The LCP has a DAO action with second strike capability, low profile snag free sights and has a capacity of 6 + 1. An excellent personal defense weapon for deep cover work! DS Arms unveiled it's new ZM-4 Spartan Series 5.56 rifle line, taking the SHOT SHOW by storm! These operator grade rifle packages offer several options, which include; a mid-length flat top upper receiver with a 16.5" fluted heavy barrel, Robar NP3 coated internal components, optional mid-length rail system, Magpul enhanced trigger guard, Hogue grip and LMT SOPMOD stock. This unique package gives operators an opportunity to order their rifle custom built from DS Arms, eliminating the need to spend time and money accessorizing a stock rifle. A new company to the industry, AmeriGlo offers high quality, operator grade Tritium night sights for a variety of different weapon systems. What caught my eye with this company is that they offer a variety of plain, serrated, white dot and Tritium sights in a variety of sizes. Ameriglo offers rear sights ranging from .256" to .393" in height and front sights ranging from .165" to .350" in height. The sights are made of high quality steel and give the serious shooter options when seeking to change point of impact and overall sight picture. For more information, visit the AmeriGlo website.
  
Mesa Tactical offers one of the highest quality side-mount receiver shot shell carriers I've ever seen! Mesa Tactical's SureShell shotgun shell carrier is made from 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum, and comes in 4, 6 and 8 shell carrier offerings. NORTH SUBURBAN POLICE PISTOL LEAGUE - NSPPL

If you are looking to continue your firearms training during the winter months to keep your shooting skills honed, you may want to consider training with one of the largest shooting leagues in the region, the North Suburban Police Pistol League (NSPPL).

The NSPPL offers a variety of shooting venues to compete in, offering matches in Combat (both open and duty classes), bullseye, off-duty handgun, snub nose revolver, long range rifle and 3-gun.

The NSPPL also conducts an Annual Awards Banquet at the end of each shooting season, recognizing the top shooters of the league in 6 ranking catagories for each venue. The NSPPL offers one of the most impressive prize tables in the shooting industry, with over 50 firearms given away at last years banquet!

International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association - Annual Training Conference

Team Spartan and the DS Arms Law Enforcement Training Division are proud to announce that we

will have a vendor booth on display at the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association's (ILEETA) 5th Annual Training Conference in Wheeling, Illinois April 1st – 5th, 2008.

The DS Arms Law Enforcement Training Division will also be presenting the DS Arms FAL SA58 Rifle Armorer Course and the Edged Weapons Defense Course at this year’s conference.

These classes filled quickly last year so be sure to get your ILEETA registration in early! Last year’s conference sold out fast and registration was stopped at 750 students! ILEETA's Executive Director

Ed Nowicki is saying that this year’s conference is going to sell out as well, and registration for 2008 will be stopped at 800 students. Get registered ASAP and we’ll see you at the conference!
Brian Hoffner - Hoffner's Training Division - Contract Classes

We are proud to announce that the Hoffners Training Division has joined the Team Spartan Network as a Strategic Partner and will be sponsoring contract classes with Brian Hoffner across the country!

Brian has over 30 years of military and law enforcement experience and is a Master Peace Officer in Texas.
