TRAINING NEWS

April was an exciting month for Team Spartan as we completed participation in ILEETA’s
4th Annual International Training Conference and Expo. The conference was packed with over
750 participants attending this year’s event which included 112 separate training tracks, over 30 instructor certification tracks and several armorer certification courses! Only one word can describe this year’s ILEETA conference – AWESOME! 

 

Members of Team Spartan, the DS Arms Law Enforcement Training Division and NSPPL staff worked non-stop at the conference from start to finish, starting the day before the conference began with helping unload the ILEETA materials truck, helping stuff over 800 sponsor bags with sponsor materials and assisting with running the ILEETA Cup Competition.

 

The 1st Annual ILEETA Cup Competition was also held on Monday with Dennis Carroll and his
staff running an excellent, organized match. Over 75 members competed in this year’s match with Dennis Carroll from the Schaumburg, Illinois Police Department coming out on top as the overall match winner. Way to go Dennis!

The conference officially started on Tuesday morning with attendee registration and an awesome vendor expo, which attracted over 2,000 people in 2 days! DS Arms had a variety of firearm samples on display at the expo, which included copies of the FAL SA58 rifle, SA58 carbine and SA58 OSW. DS Arms also displayed several models of the DS-AR 5.56 rifle, the new Spartan rifle, and the Brugger & Thomet TP9SF 9 mm sub-machinegun.

 

The conference continued on Wednesday, with the opening ceremony; meet the authors, more formal presentations and the World Cop Donut Eating Championship.

 

Tuesday through Saturday offered scores of excellent presentations from nationally recognized trainers such as; Massad Ayoob, Alexis Artwohl, Steve Ashley, Andy Casavant, Wes Doss,
John Farnam, Joe Ferrera, Jim Hornburg, Gary Klugiewicz, Bill Lewinski, Joe Maffei, Tom Marx, Brian McKenna, Phil Messina, Bank Miller, J.M. Peterson, Rick Rosenthal, Tony Scotti,
Joe Truncale, Brian Willis, and many more.

 

Team Spartan finished the week up strong, attending classes and making 2 solid presentations
on the last day of the conference with Aaron Cunningham & Matt Little presenting a class on
Edged Weapons Defense and John Krupa & Mike Keefe presenting the
FAL SA58 Rifle Armorers Certification Course.

 

The conference concluded on Saturday with more presentations, the 1st Annual Flatfoot Five Charity Fun Run / Walk and an instructor appreciation social.

 

Ed Nowicki was once again brilliant in coordinating this year’s conference and raised the bar yet again, as he has organized another record breaking conference for the 4th year in a row!
 

 

I’d like to personally thank Ed Nowicki for his commitment to excellence, and his dedication to ensuring that we receive the best possible training experience while attending the ILEETA conference. Thanks for a job well done!

If you didn’t have the opportunity to attend this year’s conference, you don’t want to miss next year’s, as we celebrate ILEETA’s 5th Anniversary! It’s going to be the largest instructor training conference in the country, and one you don’t want to miss!  
 

If you haven’t signed up yet to attend the 27th Annual IALEFI conference coming up in
San Antonio, Texas May 20th - 25th, 2007 you’re running out of time. Classes are filling up fast!

 

This year’s conference offers dozens of training classes from some of the most professional trainers in the country with a variety of live-fire courses, instructor certification blocks and
armorer certification courses to choose from.

There will be a memorial match, which is sponsored by Sigarms this year, and an exciting
sub-machinegun side match, sponsored by Team Spartan. There will also be a banquet and fund raiser raffle in support of the Police Memorial and IALEFI Scholarship Fund.

If you like to shoot and enjoy training with some of the top trainers in the country, this is one conference you don't want to miss. See you there!

 

Team Spartan is proud to announce the debut of 6 new training courses for 2007!

 

Team Spartan defensive tactics instructors Aaron Cunningham and Matt Little bring a series

of intensity driven Defensive Duty Knife Courses to life with reality based training in the

justifiable use and application of the law enforcement duty knife.

 

The Defensive Duty Knife Program is based on the internationally recognized Filipino martial art Tacosa Serrada Eskrima, a close quarter armed combatives system that has been integrated into emergency defensive use of the law enforcement duty knife. This program also focuses on legal issues and the justifiable use of the duty knife within the continuum of force.

International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors - Annual Training Conference

Team Spartan and the DS Arms Law Enforcement Training Division are proud to announce that

we will have a vendor booth on display at the International Association of Law Enforcement

Firearms Instructors (IALEFI) 27th Annual Training Conference in San Antonio, Texas

May 20th – 25th, 2007.

Team Spartan will be running the side match this year on Monday, May 21st, 2007 during the

live-fire vendor demo and memorial match. The match will be open to all IALEFI members

attending the conference. Participants will use our Brugger & Thomet TP9SF 9mm

sub-machineguns to compete with, and the top five shooters will place for prizes!

The following prizes have been donated for this years side match:

  • 1st Place - EOTech 511 Holographic Sight
  • 2nd Place - Insight M3X Tactical Flashlight
  • 3rd Place - Surefire E2D Defender Flashlight
  • 4th Place - Surefire 6P Flashlight
  • 5th Place - DS Arms OSW Hat and TP9 T-shirt

Be sure to stop by our live-fire vendor booth to test and evaluate our SA58 rifle, SA58 OSW,

DS-AR rifle and the Brugger & Thomet TP9SF sub-machinegun. We’ll have plenty of ammo on

hand for you to shoot!

Team Spartan and the DS Arms Law Enforcement Training Division will also be presenting the following courses at this years conference:

DSA, Inc. has once again generously donated an SA58 .308 rifle in support of the IALEFI

Scholarship Fund and Police Memorial Fund. This rifle will be raffled at the conference banquet

on May 24th, 2007 with all proceeds going to the support of these charities. See you in Texas!
Illinois Police Association - Area Combat and Bullseye Matches

Team Spartan and the NSPPL are proud to announce the return of the Illinois Police Association (IPA) combat and bullseye matches in the Chicagoland area. After a several year hiatus due to the anti-gun political agenda of the Chicago Police Department banning IPA and NRA shooting sports events at Chicago Police Department city ranges, we have been able to revive these excellent

law enforcement firearms training events locally through a coordinated effort with our new host

agency, the Harvey Police Department.

The following dates have been scheduled for IPA sanctioned combat and bullseye matches at

the Harvey Police Department Range in Harvey, Illinois:

Top ranking shooters for each match will receive trophies, with the overall top 20 shooters of

the year receiving the State of Illinois - Governors Twenty Award at the end of the shooting

season. The 2007 IPA shooting season will conclude in October with the IPA Top Gun Match in

Pontiac, Illinois.

National Tactical Officers Association - Annual Training Conference

Team Spartan and the DS Arms Law Enforcement Training Division are proud to announce that

we will have a vendor booth on display at the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA)

24th Annual Tactical Operations Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

September 16th – 21st, 2007.

The DS Arms Law Enforcement Training Division will also be presenting the

DS Arms FAL SA58 Rifle Armorer Course at this year’s conference as well as a live-fire weapons vendor demonstration of the SA58 rifle, SA58 OSW, DS-AR rifle and the Brugger & Thomet

TP9SF 9mm sub-machinegun. The armorers course will fill quickly, so be sure to stop by the

DS Arms vendor booth to register. Registration will be limited to 20 students.

The live-fire vendor display will be open to all conference participants that are interested in

test firing and evaluating DS Arms weapon systems. Be sure to stop by the DS Arms booth

early to register for the armorers class. We’ll see you at the conference.
Police Training Institute - 7th Annual Combat Challenge Match

The Police Training Institute will hold their 7th Annual Combat Challenge Match on

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007 at the Tactical Training Center in Champaign, Illinois. This

match consists of 6 challenging courses of fire that you can re-shoot as many times as you like.

Your best scores are posted for ranking in each stage for trophies and prizes and your overall combined score is used to determine the Top Gun shooter for the match. The match consists

of 4 pistol stages, 1 carbine stage and 1 shotgun stage.

All long guns and long gun ammunition will be provided by PTI for the match. This is truly one

of the most exciting matches I have ever shot and I guarantee that you will find these courses

of fire challenging and fun! Plan on spending the whole day shooting and socializing with

officers from other agencies at this match, and bring lots of ammo!!!
3rd Annual Toys for Tots Combat Challenge Charity Match

Mark your calendars – the 3rd Annual Toys for Tots Combat Challenge Match is scheduled for Saturday, October 13th, 2007 and will be hosted once again this year at the Harvey Police

Department Range in Harvey, Illinois.

 

We had over 180 participants from 10 different states compete in last years match, making it

the largest match of it’s kind in the country! We are expecting over 200 shooters for this years

match, and our goal is to collect 500 toys for 2007.

 

Last years event generated over 300 donated toys for the United States Marine Corps Reserves

Toys for Tots Toy Drive. We had over 70 sponsors donate 150 prizes valued at over

$15,000.00, which included 12 firearms as prizes.

 

The value of our prize table for 2007 will exceed last year’s, and we plan to have at least 15 firearms on the prize table for this year’s event! If you liked what you seen last year, this year’s event will be even bigger and better! There will be a larger vendor area, more prizes, more trophies and lots of shooting! Bring a friend and lots of toys!!!

 

In addition to running the Combat Challenge Match, we will also have several industry

sponsored side matches for participants to compete in. The matches will include:

 

  • Beretta Challenge – Pistol / carbine match on steel - Sponsored by Beretta
    All 9mm pistols, carbines and frangible ammunition will be provided for this match.
  • Revenge of the Pepper Poppers – Pistol match on steel - Sponsored by Smith & Wesson
    All 9mm M&P pistols and frangible ammunition will be provided for this match.
  • Shotgun Run – Shotgun match on steel - Sponsored by Team Spartan
    All Mossberg 590 12 gauge shotguns and ammunition will be provided for this match.
  • Man vs. Man Steel Challenge – Pistol match on steel - Sponsored by Action Target
    Shooters will use their own handguns and ammunition for this match.
