TRAINING NEWS
Team Spartan and the DS Arms Law Enforcement Training Division finished up summer strong with several excellent classes in August. Cooler weather in August was a relief as we presented Introduction to Dynamic Room Entry, Developing Reflexive Gun-handling Skills, Rapid Deployment Patrol Rifle, Rapid Deployment Patrol Shotgun, Introduction to the AR-15 / M-4 Rifle and one of the most challenging rifle instructor courses in the country - AR-15 / M-4 Rifle Instructor.

Introduction to Dynamic Room Entry introduces students to one and two man basic room entry concepts using diagonals, buttonhooks and criss-cross room entry techniques. Ultimately, we teach students to avoid making entry unless absolutely necessary. Circumstances will always dictate tactics. If entry is necessary, students learn to use speed, surprise and overwhelming force to overcome their adversary.

Students learned that by using slicing the pie, quick peeks and limited penetration, they could control large sections of rooms with open doors. Students also learned the importance of making cooperative subjects come to them vs. going into a room to get the bad guy. Whenever possible - make the bad guys come to you!

Students also learned the complexities of balancing speed and accuracy while engaging threats on the move during close quarter battle engagements. Decisional based shooting drills forced students to focus on target discrimination prior to engaging, making the class challenging and fun!

NORTH SUBURBAN POLICE PISTOL LEAGUE - NSPPL
The North Suburban Police Pistol League (NSPPL) offers a variety of shooting venues to compete in, offering matches in Combat (both open and duty classes), bullseye, off-duty handgun, snub nose revolver, long range rifle and 3-gun. The NSPPL also conducts an Annual Awards Banquet at the end of each shooting season, recognizing the top shooters of the league in 6 ranking catagories for each venue. The NSPPL offers one of the most impressive prize tables in the shooting industry, with over 50 firearms given away at last years banquet! Action Target (LETC) - Advanced Law Enforcement Training Camp
Action Target will once again be running the Law Enforcement Training Camp (LETC) for 2008. The LETC will be held on the following dates: - LETC West - September 8th - 12th, 2008 in Provo, Utah This exciting firearms instructor development camp is packed with over a dozen world class presentations from some of the top law enforcement trainers in the country! You'll attend classes with different instructors each day for 4 days and have an opportunity to network with fellow firearms instructors from agencies across the country! The LETC also offers you an opportunity to show off your skills in the classic "Dirty Harry" pistol competition where instructor students compete for prizes and bragging rights! Theres no down time here! If you like to shoot, and you're looking for a fun and exciting training conference to attend, the LETC is for you! Come join us at the most exciting shooting conference in the country!
Police Training Institute - 8th Annual Combat Challenge Match
The Police Training Institute will hold their 8th Annual Combat Challenge Match on Saturday, September 20th, 2008 at the Tactical Training Center in Champaign, Illinois. This match consists of 6 challenging courses of fire that you can re-shoot as many times as you like. Your best scores are posted for ranking in each stage for trophies and prizes and your overall combined score is used to determine the Top Gun shooter for the match. The match consists of 4 pistol stages, 1 carbine stage and 1 shotgun stage. All long guns and long gun ammunition will be provided by PTI for the match. This is truly one of the most exciting matches I have ever shot and I guarantee that you will find these courses of fire challenging and fun! Plan on spending the whole day shooting and socializing with officers from other agencies at this match - and bring lots of ammo!!!
Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center (NLETC) - Grant Funded Training
The Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center (NLETC) is sponsoring a Nebraska state funded grant to host Team Spartan's Defensive Duty Knife Instructor Course September 22 - 26, 2008 in Grand Island, Nebraska. This strategic partnership with NLETC will allow us to provide state funded and approved training to law enforcement officers in the state of Nebraska that qualify for grant covered training. INSTRUCTOR STAFF DEVELOPMENTS
To work on staff as an instructor with Team Spartan, we require that all of our instructors maintain the ability to perform on demand, all drills and courses of fire that we ask our students to perform.
