2-DAY BASIC DEFENSIVE PISTOL COURSE

This 2-day firearms training course focuses on basic defensive handgun methodology and enhancing basic gun-handling skills with the semi-automatic pistol.
Using a “back to basics” approach, students will practice basic gun-handling skills and shooting fundamentals during live-fire drills.
This enhanced firearms training course is specifically designed to assist students with skill development and use of the semi-automatic pistol as a personal defense weapon in a structured, basic level firearms training environment.
Pre-requisite: Introduction to the Semi-automatic Pistol or firearms training course of equivalent level.
The following firearms training topics will be covered:

Firearms training and basic safety.

Fundamentals of shooting.

The natural action stance and thumbs forward grip.

Mental conditioning and combat mindset.
- Developing tactical aptitude.

Target distance and optical illusions.

Methodology of shooting the semi-automatic pistol.

Loading and unloading the semi-automatic pistol.

Safe operation and control of the semi-automatic pistol.

Presentation of the semi-automatic pistol from ready pistol.

Presentation of the semi-automatic pistol from the holster.

Threat assessment and area scanning.

Basic marksmanship and target analysis.

Personal shooting skills & fundamental diagnostics.

Developing dry-fire techniques.

Ammunition management and reloading techniques.

Malfunction clearance drills.

Basic gun-handling skills.

Combat gun-handling skills.

Precision concentration drills.

Understanding time elements used in courses of fire.

Basic defensive pistol standard drill evaluation.

Basic defensive pistol qualification course.

Course student limit: 12
Student requirements: Firearms training equipment, eye protection, ear protection, baseball type cap, belt or duty belt with holster and magazine carriers, semi-automatic pistol with at least 3 hi-capacity magazines or 5 single-stack magazines.
(Body armor is optional unless it is required by your agency during firearms training.)
Recommended equipment: Rain gear, sunscreen, insect repellent and water.
Ammunition requirements: 500 rounds (minimum)
