Course Description: This 1-day firearms training course focuses on tactical speed shooting and development of aggressive gun-handling skills during tactical deployment of the shotgun for personal protection and home defense.
The concepts of dominating the weapon, threat and all visual areas during dynamic action will be emphasized throughout the course.
Students will develop reflexive gun-handling skills that will enable them to quickly and efficiently engage threats while performing multiple complex tasks.
This firearms training course takes the student beyond the basics of the shotgun and introduces the student to deployment techniques that are critical when deploying the shotgun for personal defense.
Students have the option to use pump-action or semi-automatic shotguns in this course. Shotguns must be 12 gauge and have a side receiver ejection port / loading port.
Lever-action and exposed hammer shotguns are not allowed!

Firearms training safety rules review.
Principals of personal defense.
Deployment methodology and concepts.
- Use of the shotgun for home defense.
Mental conditioning and combat mindset.
- Enhanced tactical aptitude concepts.
Fundamentals review of shooting the shotgun.
The natural action stance.
Loading / unloading and press checking the shotgun.
Review use of tactical sling systems.
Presentation from low ready, high ready, indoor ready and SUL positions.
Combat gun-handling skills.
Moving off the line of force.
Threat assessment and area scanning.
Dominating the weapon, threat and visual areas.
Ammunition management and reloading techniques.
Buckshot patterning and effective distances.
Select slug techniques.
Transition to secondary weapon system.
Malfunction clearance drills.
Multiple threat engagement.
Engaging threats during continuous movement.
Fighting with the shotgun at CQB distances.
Drugged assailant and body armor defeating drills.
Master Sight Gear 2 - The Flash Sight Picture.
- Introduction to tactical speed shooting concepts.
Weapon retention issues.
- Team shoot-off drills.
- Man vs. man stress course - combined skills evaluation.
- Shotgun manipulation standard drill test & evaluation.
Course duration: 1-day (8 hours)
Course tuition: $ 150.00
(Add $ 10.00 range fee for Lake Orion, MI. class)
Course student limit: 16
Student requirements: Note pad and pen, eye protection, ear protection, baseball type cap, duty belt with holster and magazine carriers, duty pistol with at least 2 magazines, 12 gauge pump action or semi-automatic shotgun with rifle sights or ghost ring sights, shotgun shell pouch and tactical sling.
(Body armor is optional unless it is required by your agency during firearms training)
Recommended equipment: Shotgun shell pouch, sling swivels on front and rear of shotgun, rain gear, sunscreen, insect repellent, hydration system and water.
The tactical sling must allow the shotgun to hang freely in front of the shooter.
All shotguns in this course require iron sights, preferably ghost ring sights or rifle sights. Bead sight shotguns will greatly limit the shooters ability in this class.
Red dot sights and holographic sights will not be used or addressed in this class.
Ammunition requirements: 150 birdshot, 50 rounds of buckshot
(# 4 to 000 allowed),
20 rounds of slug and 50 rounds of handgun ammunition.
